  • Thursday 6 February 2020 February Fundraising Events Students and staff are working hard to raise money for a variety of causes this February.
  • Thursday 6 February 2020 The Design Technology Curriculum at BGGS Our mission in KS3 Design and Technology is to provide opportunities for students to develop and show their creative abilities. Students use their design skills and imagination to produce workable plans for a real-world scenario. This is done in a variety of materials and involves using a wide range of tools and equipment.
  • Tuesday 28 January 2020 Praise for our Indonesia Visit Funding Application We are part of a British Council project to connect schools in the UK with schools in Indonesia. Later this year, 3 members of staff and ten students chosen from Year 10 and Year 12 will visit our partner school in Jakarta - the capital of Indonesia.
  • Tuesday 28 January 2020 Amina, Nazeefah and Holocaust Memorial Day Over the weekend two of our students, Amina and Nazeefah, represented BGGS at Birmingham's Holocaust Memorial Day event at the city's Town Hall. They did an amazing job - making a powerful contribution to the event through their speeches and they received praise from the VIPs and dignitaries present.
  • Thursday 23 January 2020 The Business Studies Curriculum at BGGS Our aim is to prepare students for the dynamic and global business environment in order to become future business leaders and captains of industry.
  • Wednesday 22 January 2020 School Hamsters Win Prizes in Pet Show The school hamsters were entered in the Pet Class at the Bradford Championship Show last weekend and we are really pleased to report that they came 3rd, 4th and 5th in the "Pet Hamster" class at this very large, prestigious event which is the "Crufts" of the hamster world.
  • Monday 20 January 2020 Pupils under 16 can apply for a grant of £250 'Once Upon A Time In Birmingham: Women Who Dared To Dream' was published in October 2018, highlighting the achievements of 30 inspirational Birmingham women. Proceeds from the book have been used to set up a legacy fund, which Birmingham girls aged under 16 can apply to for grants of up to £250 to help pursue their own ambitions. This can be for an activity, course, books, equipment or help in accessing work experience (e.g. travel costs). Click on the title to find out more
  • Thursday 16 January 2020 FaceTime with Indonesia Bordesley Green Girls' School and Sixth Form students took part in a video conference call with Indonesian students yesterday. It was just one of the activities planned to cement our partnership link with the school Ms Bateman, Mr Carson and 10 students from Years 10 and Year 12 will be visiting in March.
  • Thursday 16 January 2020 Secure storage for students' mobile phones Ms Allen would like to remind all students in Years 7 to Y11 that students are not allowed to have mobile phone on their person or in their bag during the school day. Students must hand in their mobiles each morning at Reception to be kept in the school's secure storage. You can then collect them from the General Office at 3:25pm.
  • Thursday 16 January 2020 The Science Curriculum at BGGS We want to develop enquiring minds which continually learn through questioning, investigating, analysing and evaluating. We equip students for the challenges of modern life by building knowledge and understanding of the environment, health issues, technology and the natural world.
  • Tuesday 14 January 2020 Put Y11 half term revision in the diary Students in Year 11 should expect to be in school during half term for several revision sessions -we are working on the revision timetable - which is blank for now - and it will be published once our teachers have agreed which sessions are running when for which students.
  • Sunday 12 January 2020 Lots of new photos We've been busy updating the school website and we have added lots of lovely new photo galleries to the site.
  • Wednesday 8 January 2020 The Art Curriculum at BGGS We strongly believe in the vital role art and design play in allowing creativity, curiosity and self-expression to develop alongside resilience, confidence and critical thinking skills. Our broad-based curriculum enables students to develop and build creative skills exploring a variety of techniques with a range of media .
  • Tuesday 7 January 2020 Cut-off time for lunch queue is 1.15pm We have decided that no students will be allowed to join the queue for dinner after 1:15pm to stop students playing the system and deliberately arriving late in the dining hall.

  • Tuesday 17 December 2019 Be our Youth Parliament Candidate We are looking for our candidate in the UK Youth Parliament elections. Mr Weaver will need to select our UKYP candidate from the council this week instead of having a vote within the council. This is due to us cancelling the election after last Friday's unforeseen closure.
  • Monday 16 December 2019 Christmas Photos Students in our Photography Club with Mr Monja have been busy taking photos of Christmas Decorations around the school site.
  • Sunday 15 December 2019 Translation Facility Did you know that our website has a (very) basic translation facility built in? Click on the globe icon in the top right-hand corner of your computer screen and our website software will attempt to render a basic translation of the text in a range of languages. You can select the target language from the drop-down menu which appears when you click on the globe icon.
  • Thursday 12 December 2019 School Closed on Fri 13th December Over the past 2 days we have experienced unprecedented levels of absence due to sickness. Following discussions with Public Health England I have made the decision to close the school on Friday 13th December and undertake a deep clean of the school. The school will re-open on Monday 16th December at the normal time.
  • Wednesday 11 December 2019 DEAF Awareness Week 2020 We believe it is important as a school to increase awareness of issues faced by deaf people and to promote some of the positive aspects of deafness. Therefore, the HRB @ BGGS will be taking the lead as we support Deaf Awareness Week again in 2020. Keep an eye out for website items about our activities in preparation for and during Deaf Awareness Week which will take place from the 4th to the 10th May 2020
  • Tuesday 10 December 2019 HRB/Inclusion visit to German Market The Inclusion and Hearing Resource Base departments went on a trip to the German Markets on 4.12.19. Everyone enjoyed a ride on the carousel and a hot chocolate, followed by some shopping time at the stalls. It was a wonderful experience for the students.
  • Thursday 5 December 2019 Eco Warrior Initiative An initiative led by students, elected as school councillors, whose focus is to improve our school’s carbon footprint and in educating our whole school community about the increasing need to protect the world around us.
  • Tuesday 3 December 2019 Geography Club looking for new members If you are interested in geography and want to more, come along to the Geography Club in Room 8 on Fridays. Run for students by students, the club provides a fun space to learn more, help create resources and displays for the Geography Department and will help you develop your geographical knowledge.
  • Friday 15 November 2019 Ms Allen appointed as Interim Deputy Head Congratulations to Ms Allen who has been appointed to the role of Interim Deputy Headteacher. She will have a particular focus on the curriculum and ensuring the continuing improvement of teaching.
  • Monday 11 November 2019 QR Code posters promote 6th Form New posters advertising the 6th Form Prospectus for 2020 admission have been put up around the school site today. The feature a QR code to promote the prospectus.
  • Wednesday 6 November 2019 HRB students visit the theatre Students from the Hearing Resource Base here at BGGS have been to the Malvern Theatre today to watch An Inspector Calls, as part of the English curriculum they are studying.
  • Friday 25 October 2019 Panathlon 2019 In June, the H.R.B and mainstream deaf students participated in a Panathlon bowling competition. Panathlon is a charity that provides sporting opportunities to over 1,000 schools across the country.
